Backed by 15 years of research in chemical and bioprocess engineering at the University of Dublin, OxyMem was created to bring a new and innovative technology to the Environment & Water Technologies industry. Within only a few years, OxyMem started being recognised for its contributions to the industry at national, European and international levels and has secured a number of Energy, Sustainability and Innovation awards.
OxyMem participated in the EU Gateway | Business Avenues business mission to South East Asia on Environment & Water Technologies in July 2016.
During the business mission week in Singapore, it was recognised by Singapore’s Public Utility Board (PUB) as a company to watch and won the TechXchange People’s Choice award for innovative technology in the water industry.
“Being part of a bigger group on the business mission and winning the award most certainly had a multiplying effect for our visibility (…) More than that, going as a group with EU Gateway | Business Avenues, you can even identify opportunities for collaboration with other European companies on the business mission. With the same target market in mind, we will start exploring potential opportunities to integrate our solution into other European Companies’ products or vice versa and develop an enhanced solution that we can bring to the market”. – Mr. Eoin Syron, Technical Director and Co-Founder, OxyMem (Ireland).
The company sees Singapore as a true gateway to the region.
The company’s representatives met not only domestic companies at its booth at the Singapore International Water Week (SIWW), but also local branches of global players who are active in other countries in the region, including the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Korea, China and Japan.
OxyMem brings a new and highly innovative technology that improves wastewater treatment with smart aeration called MABR (Membrane Aerated Biofilm Reactor). The modular units can be simply dropped into existing tanks on your wastewater treatment facility to increase treatment capacity, improve effluent quality or help reduce ongoing OPEX costs. New builds plants are up to 80% smaller in footprint than traditional plants.
“Since we are bringing something that is unknown and novel to the industry, we were looking for established partners with market share and good reputation who are looking to differentiate their product offering with the latest technology. We had 50+ meetings in Singapore and more than 30 in Vietnam. In return, the face-to-face interaction we had with each of the ~80 companies allows us to lean on that relationship when following-up via phone or email in our efforts to create a partnership”. – Mr. Eoin Syron, Technical Director and Co-Founder, OxyMem (Ireland).
Given the novelty of OxyMem’s technology, the company had numerous follow-up meetings with different members of the same companies during the exhibition days.
“We found all meetings worthwhile during the EU Gateway | Business Avenues mission and knew that a few of these held real potential in growing into long term relationships, which is exactly what we were after. Since 2016 OxyMem has delivered product to numerous interested partners and countries across the globe; Japan, China and Philippines to name the region targeted by the programme, though we have also sold MABR technology worldwide. The interest in our technology continues to glow month by month as engineers, owners, operators and solution providers learn of the key benefits it offers across the board.
Looking forward, OxyMem is very excited to see how the seeds it has sown in Singapore and Vietnam continue to develop over time. Following our success during previous years we have already registered our interest in taking part in new business missions. Now having had experience from attending a previous Business Mission and being listed during 2017 and 2018 on Global Cleantech’s Top 100 companies offering “ the most innovative and promising ideas in cleantech and that are best positioned to solve tomorrow’s clean technology challenges “, we believe the next mission may prove even more eventful and productive than the last. We look forward to it.” – Mr. John McConomy, Commercial Director, OxyMem (Ireland).
“We see how EU Gateway | Business Avenues can help companies establish presence and get in touch with various people at various levels across a number of industries and markets. Although our resources were limited, we recognised the need to invest in new relationships in our earlier years and we look forward to using EU Gateway | Business avenues as a platform going forward.” – Mr. Eoin Syron, Technical Director and Co-Founder, OxyMem (Ireland).
Other European companies can follow in the footsteps of OxyMem’s success.
