AcanChia is a German company that specialises in high-quality vegetable raw materials for food production. It is an internationally oriented company with worldwide business as well as a controlled importer according to the EU Organic Farming Guidelines.
The company oversees the production of local products in Latin America with a proprietary team. The brand is certified organic since 2013 and supports sustainable growers, the cultivation of products and the preservation of traditional foods.
In 2016, AcanChia joined the EU Gateway | Business Avenues Organic Food & Beverage business mission to Korea where it met many Korean companies interested in its products and in potential collaborations.
Eventually, AcanChia decided to work together with HNI Korea and closed an exclusive agent agreement with the company in March 2017 for its raw materials and processed foods from organic chia and quinoa seeds, as well as cocoa and yacon products.
Within a short period of time after closing the agreement, HNI Korea succeeded in launching AcanChia’s organic high-quality Peruvian-cultivated black chia seeds as an ingredient in the preparation of the Starbucks chia seed drinking yoghurt.
Since the launch, sales quantities increased constantly and are now on a stable basis. – Wolfgang Neldner, General Manager, AcanChia (Germany)
Last summer, at HNI Korea’s request, AcanChia’s research department started developing a soluble formulation of the organic chia flour as an ingredient for special uses in food products.
After a thorough evaluation of the new extra fine chia flour by a Korean food company, which included regulatory affairs, processability, quality control, residues, taste and stability tests, the ingredient became part of a meal replacement product for weight management with low fat or soy milk.
For a while now, Korean company Pulmuone has been launching and selling this extra fine chia flour as part of its 365 line. – Wolfgang Neldner, General Manager, AcanChia (Germany)
Since the launch of its products on the Korean market, the demand has been rapidly increasing month-to-month.
Besides the two ingredients that are already being sold in Korea, AcanChia is working on new releases and formulations specially designed for the market.
A special chia oil formulation is still under evaluation by one of the biggest cosmetic companies in Korea for use in skin care.
Also, new ingredients from cocoa and yacon are still under development for other interested Korean food companies.
Furthermore, since the beginning of 2018, AcanChia is officially accredited as an exporter of products from the EU to Korea and has a preferential origin with customs authorization.
For AcanChia, the business mission opened doors not only to the distribution of its products in Korea but also to other neighbouring markets.
Since developing the new formulations and ingredients, the company is planning to sell them through its existing distribution network in other Asian countries, like Japan and Taiwan.
In a nutshell, the business mission has turned into an unequivocal success for AcanChia in Korea and results are only just beginning to show.
Our participation in the Organic Food & Beverage mission in Korea put us very quickly in the position to find real distribution partners and to realize sales. – Wolfgang Neldner, General Manager, AcanChia (Germany)
Thanks to being introduced to the market during the mission, AcanChia has managed to make strides with its expansion in Korea in a short amount of time.
The rapid success is due to the fact that the company’s efforts have been doubled by the logistical and financial support of the programme since the early stages.
We received professional assistance before-during-and after the mission from the EU Gateway | Business Avenues team. Without the Programme, we would not be ready yet. – Wolfgang Neldner, General Manager, AcanChia (Germany)
AcanChia’s story isn’t singular.
