Well Pumps is a Belgian producer of water pumping solutions for various kinds of installations, including borehole solar pumps, surface solar pumps, sewage solar pumps and swimming pool solar pumps.
Located in Fleurus, Belgium, the company [1] is truly committed to a cleaner environment and products that are safe, thoroughly tested and to the highest quality standards.
In 2016, Well Pumps acted upon its desire to expand to Asia and had the opportunity to be selected for the first EU Gateway | Business Avenues mission [2] for Environment & Water Technologies [3].
The business mission gave Well Pumps access to two dynamic markets, Singapore and Vietnam. The mission started in Singapore, during the Singapore International Water Week, where participants had a chance to meet stakeholders in the water industry and potentially start exploring business deals. In Vietnam, Well Pumps was able to introduce its wide range of solutions to the local market where it was received with great interest. The solar pumping systems were attracting numerous companies, as it is a somewhat new technology and not widely used in South East Asia.
It is in Vietnam that Well Pumps also found a local partner in Vucico, a company specialized in representing foreign companies in the water industry within the Vietnamese market.
We met a partner thanks to EU Gateway | Business Avenues that we visited again after the EU-funded business mission to Vietnam, and which has visited us in Belgium. […] We have good hope that the sales will increase through the years and end-up in a long-term relationship. – Simon Laurent, International Sales Manager, Well Pumps (Belgium)
The partner is of significant importance to Well Pumps due to its access to a wide network of state-owned companies responsible for the distribution of potable water across the entire country. Without the new partner, it would’ve been impossible for the Belgian company to meet and do business locally.
The new partner has a lot of relations with state-owned companies in Vietnam: this is a network which we wouldn’t have access to, if it wasn’t for them and the EU Gateway | Business Avenues Programme that pre-arranged the meeting. – Simon Laurent, International Sales Manager, Well Pumps (Belgium)
As of 2018, Well Pumps is still partnering with the company, and visiting once a year to further connect with its clients. Thanks to its new partner, Well Pumps is now experiencing a steady growth in Vietnam.
In Vietnam, there is a market for us and we are starting to create a presence there, thus our market share is increasing. – Simon Laurent, International Sales Manager, Well Pumps (Belgium)
In Singapore, business was slower to start, because the use of submersible pumps for deep wells is almost non-existent. However, Well Pumps found a new partner during the exhibition in Singapore, which helped them venture onto a new market, Indonesia.
According to the company’s representatives, each country has its specificities and presents high potential to be explored. In upcoming years, the Belgian company is looking to expand its market share in Singapore and Vietnam, and further reach new markets in Asia.
If I have the chance to apply for more of these EU-funded business missions I will do it. I would also recommend this Programme to other companies interested in expanding into new markets in Asia. – Simon Laurent, International Sales Manager, Well Pumps (Belgium)
Have what it takes to expand to South East Asia? Applications are now open for the 2019 edition of the mission for Environment & Water Technologies companies [4].
