European companies pushing the boundaries of mass railway transportation in Japan

The first EU Gateway | Business Avenues market-scoping mission in Railway Technologies & Services [1]  (Chiba, Tokyo Metropolitan area, 27 Nov. - 1 Dec. 2017), helped the partaking European companies look into and better understand the challenges of doing business in Japan.

The EU-funded initiative provided extensive logistics and invaluable support [2] during the entire mission week, which included three exhibition days at Mass-Trans Innovation Japan 2017 [3], networking events and an engaging site visit to some of Tokyo’s most groundbreaking railway hubs.

Nearly 30 European companies brought their state-of-the-art solutions for the railway sector in front of over 32.000 visitors at Makuhari Messe in Chiba-Tokyo for the fair, alongside other heavyweight, reputable companies that design, manufacture and maintain rolling stock and locomotives, railway infrastructure, railway command, control and communications systems, railway security, safety and crisis management.

RTS Japan business meeting

The EU Gateway to Japan team [4] in Europe and Japan facilitated the business matchmaking process to ensure that the companies selected for the mission only met with Japanese companies that were truly interested in creating effectual partnerships.

Thanks to being backed by the EU, the companies benefitted from increased credibility which weighed positively on the outcome of their pre-arranged business meetings.

Despite being the first market-scoping mission of its kind, the mission proved to be highly auspicious for the companies selected. Many of the participants successfully initiated business collaborations with domestic partners and customers during the exhibition days and had follow-up dialogues in the ensuing weeks.

Ready to tackle the Japanese market and expand your business to Asia? There are many other business opportunities besides Railway Technologies & Services. EU Gateway | Business Avenues is currently looking for applicants in Environment & Water Technologies [5] (21-25 May 2018) and Green Energy Technologies [6] (18-22 June 2018).
