Innovative European companies in Healthcare & Medical Technologies explore business opportunities in China

Shanghai. From 4-8 December cutting edge European companies in the healthcare and medical technologies sector held exploratory cooperation talks with Chinese companies. A total of 34 European companies attended the week-long mission resulting in over 500 business meetings taking place with close to 150 Chinese companies. This was the first business mission in healthcare and medical technologies under the EU Gateway to China programme.

The Chinese companies in attendance were interested in different forms of business cooperation, investment, licencing agreements, and joint ventures. Any deals which result from the meetings will add to expanding trade and business ties between China and the EU. The EU Gateway to China Programme provided a range of services to facilitate the week-long cooperation programme including business coaching and personal interpretation services.

For this mission to Shanghai, the EU Gateway to China programme was supported by the Mission’s Special Partner Organisations, the China Association for Science and Technology, Shanghai Pudong Bio Industry Association, and Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park·Pharma Valley of China. During a site visit to Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, European companies also visited innovative Chinese companies, highlighting the advances in Chinese innovation and research and development in the medical technologies field. This business mission was also supported by other Chinese Partner Organisations of the Programme, including the China Investment Promotion Agency, EU-China Industrial and Commercial Investment Promotion Union, Fenlin Biomedical Center (BioFM), Shanghai Juke Biotech Park and China Association of Small and Medium Enterprises.

A representative of the EU Delegation to China, Ms Natividad Lorenzo who attended the mission said, “supporting European companies through the EU Gateway to China programme aims to facilitate EU-China business in this fast-growing sector. We expect that this first Healthcare and Medical Technologies Mission will serve as a foothold for future business missions to China. We will continue to introduce Chinese companies to the outstanding and innovative European technologies to provide a business platform for interested Chinese companies in priority economic sectors. The long-term aim is to increase EU-China Trade and Investment”.
