Singapore sees the environment and water industry as key growth industry. It has seen its value-added contribution to the GDP growth to S$ 1.7 billion in 2015.
There are abundant opportunities for European companies in the environment and water sector, mostly in fresh water supply, wastewater management, environmental solutions and waste management.
With limited land area and dense population, sustainable waste management has become crucial in Singapore. Because of this, focus and efforts are being put into seeking cost-effective and holistic environmental solutions to avoid basic landfill disposal. The long-term strategy is to go towards zero landfill. To meet this need, Singapore has made significant strides in the waste-to-energy sector, and is looking to further develop its capabilities in recycling of products and materials.
