The 2018 EU Gateway | Business Avenues mission for Environment and Water Technologies to South East Asia has concluded.
44 companies from 14 European member states were selected for the mission, which took place from 8 to 13 July in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The EU-funded mission has been a tremendous business-generating opportunity for the European companies that participated, and the results are only just beginning to show and will soon be featured among the success stories.
Participants have had the opportunity to become more acquainted to the environment and water sectors, build or adjust their business expansion strategies for the region and meet valuable contacts among local companies in both Singapore and Malaysia.
The mission week started with a 4-day focus on Singapore. Mission companies exhibited their products and services at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, during the Singapore International Water Week 2018.
The prominent event brought in a remarkable influx of visitors, from a variety of Asian companies which were interested in European innovations.
Through both pre-arranged and spontaneous meetings, many business connections have been established and some companies already managed to go a step further, like Budapest Waterworks from Hungary, which signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Public Utility Board in Singapore, an auspicious endeavour leading to a long-term business collaboration.
Besides making an impact on the Singaporean market, participants were also able to connect with businesses in Malaysia, a market that grows at fast paces and experienced a 5.8% growth within the last year.
The EU is Malaysia’s 3rd largest trading partner and local companies have great interest in what Europe has to offer in the environment and water industries.
During the mission, the companies present at the event had opportunities aplenty to meet end users, agents, distributors, and potential partners in the region.
The mission was chock-full of exhibition prospects, business-to-business meetings, networking events and briefing sessions. Participants had every chance to establish a presence, grow their reach and set up new business collaborations in South East Asia.
Overall, South East Asia has enormous market potential for companies that are looking to expand in the region and the mission’s success attests to the growing interest and need of European solutions.
